This picture is Ryan with fellow East team O-linemen at this year's U.S. Army All-American Bowl awards banquet. Ryan was nominated for the game before he was diagnosed with cancer, was invited to attend as a special guest, and was treated as part of the team. He was asked to address the players after practice the day before the game: I don't know what Ry said, but the East team coach told me at the banquet how inspirational he was, and how touched many of the players were by his words.

In the spring of 2011, Ryan Anderson was considered to be among the top offensive guard prospects in the state of Ohio. He was a dedicated student athlete with a 3.4 grade point average, and was a college coach’s dream. He had scholarship offers from schools such as Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Michigan State, and was being evaluated by top tier programs Michigan and Ohio State.
