As a foster child from a very early age, Dalton has never let his situation keep him from striving to do his best. During football season last year, the team was told they would have to forfeit 4 wins because Dalton had been declared ineligible based on a paperwork oversight because the foster care system moved him to a different home and different school. Through appeals hearing to the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) and a brief court case, this star running back was there all the way, defending himself and believing all along that the system would prove him right. And it did. A court ruled that Dalton was eligible and the team was given the wins back. The varsity team lost in the Section championship game.
Dalton has become an example to all foster children in California and even led to further legislation regarding the protection of foster children’s rights. He has spoken at several workshops recounting his story and continues to be an example to all students that belief in yourself and trust in others can and will lead to success.
