Nick is exactly what Rudy was, an undersized over-achiever. He started off as a linebacker on the 9th grade team and in 10th grade on the JV team. He led the team in tackles both years. Due to the fact he had people in front of him, his defensive coordinator, Keith Manous, moved him to defensive tackle. He went from being undersized and capable to being WAY undersized and unsure. He never let his head go down or felt pity. I saw him upset over it for a day. When I talked to him about the move, he had a plan. He saw the possible benefits of the move. He worked hard, lifted weights harder, and most of all, he learned.
He is now a starter and our heart on defensive. He draws the toughest assignments. He has used his intelligence and his work ethic to become the player and leader that makes our defense strong. After a recent loss, as everyone was feeling sorry for themselves, Nick told everyone to stop pouting and take it like a man.
He was right because He knew he had given it his best effort. He is consistently striving to do his best and bring out the best in others.
